What is PTFE?
PTFE or Polytetrafluoroethylene is a fluoropolymer having unique properties that makes it often the choice for most demanding engineering applications. Some of its outstanding properties are
- Low coefficient of friction
- Low dielectric constant
- Outstanding chemical resistance
- Wide temperature range
- High dielectric strength
- Excellent weather ability
- Excellent flammability resistance
- High volume surface resistivity
What is a PTFE compound?
Some of the drawbacks with PTFE are high deformation under load , high thermal expansion , low hardness, and low wear resistance. PTFE compounds have been introduced to address some of the above deficiencies with virgin PTFE.
Fillers are blended with PTFE to obtain PTFE compounds. Fluoroflon Industry employs Fillers like Bronze, Carbon, Graphite, Glass fiber, Stainless steel, Molybdenum sulphide etc for blending with PTFE. Addition of these fillers improve wear resistance , increases compressive strength, increases electrical conductivity, increases hardness.
